How Diet and Exercise Can Help You Shed the Pounds

Weight loss drugs or weight loss supplements are specific pharmacological agents which reduce or regulate weight, particularly in people suffering from obesity. These drugs affect one of the most basic systems of the body, weight control, by changing appetite, or intake of food. Their effect is often compared to that of caffeine, as it alters the way our bodies behave when we are not hungry. This article aims to provide an explanation of weight loss drugs.

The most common type of weight loss drugs is the one that affects the functioning of the hypothalamus, a gland in the brain which is responsible for controlling hunger and metabolism. Its stimulation can either increase or decrease the appetite, and the levels of circulating glucose and hormones can be increased or decreased accordingly. Common side effects of this agent include headaches, dizziness, constipation, insomnia, dry mouth and nausea. However, these side effects subside once the drug’s concentration declines in the blood.

Another weight loss medication, which affects both appetite and metabolism, is the centrally acting antidiabetic, or insulin, which is usually given to people with diabetes. Its mechanism of action is similar to that of glucose, the substance used by the body for energy production. As a result, it causes the same complications as a high blood pressure, and its long term use is accompanied by serious health risks, such as heart disease and stroke. Also, when taken with glucose, it can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, a dangerous complication of diabetes, characterized by a sharp rise in body fluids, resulting in dangerous changes in the electrolyte content of the body.

One of the most widely used weight loss drugs is the orlistat, which has many interesting features. First, orlistat lowers the blood glucose level, which leads to less thirst and no hunger pangs. It also decreases the absorption of carbohydrates, which means that you will experience less frequent urination. This medication allows you to satisfy your basic needs easily and satisfies your aesthetic requirements too, as it causes no change in the way you look. Also, the effect lasts longer than that of other drugs for diabetes, which makes it preferable for long term use.

Certain other weight loss drugs, including hoodia, which is extracted from a plant in the south of India, are considered ”compliant” drugs. In the context of dietary supplements, these products are considered ”complete” because they act in concert with the regular diet and exercise program and do not interfere with the doctor’s recommendations. However, these products are only recommended if the patient strictly adheres to the doctor’s dietary recommendations. For example, the doctor may need you to avoid foods that have large quantities of starch, like rice, potatoes and pasta, while consuming small amounts of fiber, fruits and vegetables.

Most weight loss medications work best in combination with lifestyle changes. In fact, lifestyle changes are what make these drugs effective in the first place. If you are overweight and are looking to reduce your weight through diet and exercise, it is important to follow your doctor’s advice and stick to the program as much as possible. If you take prescription drugs, be sure to talk to your pharmacist about how the drug will affect your current lifestyle.
